Bowling for books

Jake Schmutzler, 15, prepares to let it rip at Saturday night's Bowl-a-Rama fund-raiser thrown by Friends of the Homer Library at Kachemak Bowl. Event planners said pledges from the eight-team event totaled over $7,500, with another $450 coming in from a dessert auction. The Homer Library's capital campaign, aimed at raising money for a new building, has now held three fund-raisers. The previous two pulled in a combined $3,200. The The city council and Mayor Jack Cushing's "Bowl-a-Crats" team had the highest total score.
