Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce
The chamber needs anyone interested in the Feb. 23 pool tournament to sign up ASAP by calling the Anchor River Inn Lounge at 235-8531. Also needed are kids for the Joanne Alexander Memorial Dog Sled Races at Griner’s Pit on Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. This event is free, always fun and a great experience for the kids. For more information, call 235-2600. The chamber is working very hard on this year’s Snow Rondi and is collecting lots of great auction items from generous businesses. A new event this year will be a Texas Hold ’Em Tournament, sponsored by Aurora Taxes and being organized and run by Stan Harrington. The tourney will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. The Snow Rondi events schedule booklets will be available at local businesses starting Sunday. Beta Sigma Phi will hold a bake sale to raise money for its annual scholarship from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 24 at the chamber of commerce building.
Anchor Point Senior Citizens Center
Tonight’s dinner is a prime rib fund-raiser dinner. There are two seatings, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. You also can have a portrait taken with your sweetheart to go home with you in a nice folder for only $10. Bingo is going strong on Friday nights. Doors open at 6 p.m. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served from 9 am.-noon Sunday. Craft day will be Monday from 1-4 p.m. There are many crafts, including scrap booking, sewing and sweatshirt designing. Snow Rondi Bake Sale and Craft Fair will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 24. If you would like to rent a space for the craft fair, call the center at 235-7786 or Sue at 235-0583. The center’s new RAVEN, Amy Cox, is starting a new project, bicycle recycling. It involves collecting old bikes that need some fixing up, then with some youth and other volunteers, the center will fix them up. After they are fixed, there will be a day in which the center will have a bicycle safety course, give out helmets, have refreshments and give bikes to children who need one. Anyone with old bikes to donate is asked to call Amy at 235-7786.
Anchor Point Disaster Reponse Program and CERT
A training introduction into the Community Emergency Response Team will begin March 6. If interested, contact Carolyn Roderick at 235-8405 or register online at www.kpvolunteers.org. Just click on the big green CERT button. The next disaster response meeting will be May 1; all volunteers are welcome. There will be a search and rescue class Feb 23-25 at the Alaska State Troopers Anchor Point Post. Don’t forget to sign up and pay the $25 fee.
Anchor Point Youth Committee
Youth, don’t wait around, stand up for all the youth in the community and let your voice be heard. Sign up today at The Warehouse store, Thurmond’s or the post office. With a good response, the first meeting of the Youth Committee will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the senior center.
VFW Post 10221
The Sweetheart Dance will be Saturday with live music by “The Draggers.” There will be good eats and raffles. The monthly fish fry is Feb. 25. Members and guests are welcome.
