Scholarships: The Homer Foundation has five scholarships available for area students. These include the Alain and Daniel Rieser Scholarship for foreign language study, the Homer Community Science Scholarship supporting post-secondary education in the life sciences, the Health Care Providers Scholarship supporting students interested in pursuing a health care field, the Drew Scalzi Memorial Maritime Scholarship supporting students of fishing families and/or students wishing to pursue a career in Alaska’s maritime industry, and the Diane Wambach “Shoot for the Stars” Scholarship supporting education and training for young people with a plan to pursue their dream. The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is sponsoring scholarships for a 2007/2008 full-year tuition waiver from AVTEC, the Alaska Vocational Technical Center, and a 2008/2008 full-year tuition waiver from Kenai Peninsula College-University of Alaska Anchorage. The Kenai Borough Employees Association scholarship committee is accepting applications for four scholarships of $500 each. The scholarships are available to all 2007 graduates of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, including public schools, private schools, and home-schooled. AAA Alaska will again offer the Academics, Athletic and Arts scholarship to graduating Alaska high school seniors. To be eligible, seniors must maintain at least a 2.75 grade point average, actively participate in academics, athletics and the arts, and attend a college or accredited technical school in Alaska, Montana or Wyoming during the 2007-2008 school year. The $1,000 Mary and Lucian Cassetta Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by the Anchorage Symphony to a high school senior who displays musical talent, dedication and a desire to continue advanced music studies. The University of Alaska Foundation offers $500 to $8,000 scholarships for students attending any campus of the University of Alaska in 2007-08.
