Homer Winter Carnival
Cold temperatures over the weekend didn't deter plenty of spectators from coming out for the Homer Winter Carnival Parade down Pioneer Avenue and on Saturday and other events over the weekend. Linda Broadhead, visitor services manager for the Homer Chamber of Commerce, said she has heard a lot of positive comments regarding the carnival.
"It's great to see people's enjoyment hasn't diminished," she said. "It's Homer's event."
New events, such as the bazaar at the Homer Elks Club drew praise. The free skate at the Homer Ice Rink sponsored by NOMAR drew a rink-full of skaters. And the fireworks display dazzled, Broadhead said.
"It was a nice time to have them in the winter," she said.
Updated winners from the parade are as follows:
Homer Hockey Association (nonprofit) - -- -$400
South Peninsula Haven House (nonprofit) - - - -$100
Cosmic Hoops (for profit) - -- -- -- -$100
Mark Marette (for profit) - -- -- -- -$100
Synchro Sea Start (Judges Choice nonprofit)- -- -$100
