I propose that we, at least, invest as much in a place for young people, as we do for our stray animals. I would kick off this proposal with the following offer. If folks who feel as I do would furnish the saw logs and fuel, I will manufacture a pre-cut kit, consisting of all the wall logs, interior walls and related beams needed to construct a building suitable to furnish housing and entertainment for those who need this type of structure.
I would like to believe Homer has people willing to make a building site, lot prep, concrete, plumbing and electrical, furniture, appliances and other building supplies needed for this project. I'm sure many folks in Homer would be glad to invest their labor. I know these young people would be more than willing to help in any way possible to make this project a reality.
It should also be remembered that something for nothing has never worked in the past, and that will never change.
Give these young people something to work for, and take pride in, and they will police the facility and their group behavior on their own. Strong leadership is a must to be both good or bad.
