Homer Middle School seventh-grader Claire Laukitis skied to a win in the 3-kilometer freestyle middle school ski race on Saturday at the ski trails at Lookout Mountain.
Finishing in 13 minutes, 17 seconds, Laukitis was just one second faster than second-place finisher Thorey Munro, also a seventh-grader at Homer Middle School.
Among the seventh-grade boys, Dylan Carter placed fifth and Wyatt Rehder was ninth.
For the eighth-grade girls, Ericka Klaar of Chapman School finished third, while Alina Rykaczewski, Kristen Vantrease, Amy Fell and Nyssa Beachler, all of Homer Middle School, placed fourth through seventh, respectively.
Garrett Hoanin led the Homer Middle School eighth-graders with a sixth-place finish, and Peter Walsworth was eighth.
CIA upends Warrior boys
Cook Inlet Academy knocked off the visiting Nikolaevsk boys 52-43 on Feb. 13.
The state's top ranked Class 2A team, the Eagles held a potent Warriors offense in check. Sam Kuzmin and Peter Tipikin had 10 points each for Nikolaevsk.
Calder Hillyer led CIA with 11.
The loss dropped Nikolaevsk to 11-6 on the season.
