Not too late to piece some fleece

Although the Piece the Fleece contest began Jan. 27, there is still time to stop by NOMAR and pick up a bag of fleece and enter the competition. Entries must be completed and delivered by 6 p.m. March 21. Entries will be judged, prizes awarded and entries on display by March 24. There are three categories and gift certificate prizes. Scholarships available

The Homer Council on the Arts offers summer fine arts scholarships for grades six through 11. Applications are available at HCOA. Deadline is March 30. For more information, call 235-4288.

New arts grants available

The Alaska State Council on the Arts and the Rasmuson Foundation announced four new grants funded through the Rasmuson Foundation Arts in Education Initiative, administered by the Alaska Arts and Culture Foundation in partnership with the Alaska State Council on the Arts: Art Excursion Grant funds up to $300 to a public or private K-12 school to reimburse transportation expenses to an arts and culture event or venue; Arts Educators Grant awards up to $3,000 presented to K-12 arts educators; and Cultural Collaborations has two categories, Access Grants and Project Grants. State's best photography showcased

Alaska Positive, a statewide juried photography exhibition organized every two years by the Alaska State Museum in Juneau, opens at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art on Sunday. Forty-five photographs by 33 photographers are featured. The exhibit continues through March 27.

Juried exhibit seeks entries

Entries are being accepted for the biannual Kenai Juried Art Exhibit at the Kenai Fine Arts Center from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on March 2 and 3. The juror is Daniel Nisbeth, of New York. Juror's critique and artist reception will be at 7 p.m. March 4. Cash prizes will be awarded. Entrants must be Kenai Peninsula residents; any medium is acceptable. Guidelines are available at the Peninsula Art Guild in Kenai, (907) 283-7040 or at "art works" in Soldotna, (907) 262-1777. Nisbeth will present a weekend workshop titled "Working in Clay, Creative Handbuilding Techniques." For more information and space availability, call (907) 283-7040.
