Homer Boot and Shoe offers sneakers, hiking and working boots, and dress shoes for all ages. It also stocks a wide variety of women's clothing, including tops, suits, dresses and gowns.
The store opened three weeks ago in Belmonte Vista Center next to the Bath Shop.
Carpenter said he had planned to open a store in town for years, but until recently he wasn't sure what to sell. When people began to talk about the lack of shoe stores in the area, he knew what he could sell.
"I live here, too. And I think the same thing," he said. "This is what we found Homer needed and didn't have."
Homer Boot and Shoe's first floor is piled high with shoeboxes. Upstairs is filled with a large selection of women's clothing, including dresses from a wide selection of designers.
The store also stocks prom gowns, which will make it easy for those who are preparing for spring dances.
"That's something that's only in minimal supply," Carpenter said. "You really have to go to Anchorage or go online for a real selection. Other than here — we've got a selection."
The store is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
