Homer Alaska - Letters

All's well that ends well

First, I would like to point out that those of us who own property and/or live in Anchor Point are relieved. The young couple is no longer breaking and entering. This situation could have ended in another way. Most of the break-ins occurred at night. Imagine sleeping — homeowner awakened by a break-in — shots fired — young couple wounded or worse.

I'd like to think they will grow up, see the error of their ways and become reasonable citizens and maybe even good parents one day.

I'm proud of the community mobilization and the pursuant detainment of said couple. I know both of the gentlemen involved; they handled the situation admirably. The troopers have those involved in custody and they are not injured. Best possible ending.

Let's let the troopers do their job now. We must remember they have their hands tied by a myriad of rules, one false move on their part, and the whole thing gets thrown out by our wonderful judiciary. My hat's off to the men on the line. I'm not nearly so enamored by the legal garbage they face. I can't imagine the frustration they go through catching those of us who screw up (some make a lifestyle of it), and then have their hard work tossed out on a technicality.

In short, words like "vigilante" and "posse" (Anchorage Daily News) are sensationalism —some poor sap trying to sell a paper. Kudos to both Homer papers for not jumping on that bandwagon.

Thankful to live in an involved community,

Joey Allred Jr.
