SB 171: Kill it now

Enactment of Senate Bill 171 would entitle individuals who live in the state for six months prior to dying a permanent fund dividend for the year in which they die. It would be paid in October of the year after they die. This legislation will surely trigger a class-action lawsuit that will make the old PFD and longevity suits look like parking tickets. With the state's track record on lawsuits, it will be one we will, again, lose.

Lawyers and part-time residents are spring loaded for this one to entitle all six-month residents to the PFD. The PFD already is overexpanded to include liberal military and seniors who are merely part-time residents.

Contact your legislators to kill SB 171 before we give the entire PFD away. The bill has passed the Senate.
