Competition

"Doodle 4 Google Contest 2010" offers for students in grades K-12 an opportunity to draw a Google logo for the Google homepage ispired by the theme, "If I could do anything, I would..." Deadline to register is 11:59:59 p.m. March 17, with entries to be submitted no later than 11:59:59 p.m. March 31. The winning doodle will be featured on Google.com May 27. The winner ow only has the art featured o nthe homepage, but also received a $15,000 college scholarship, a trip to Google New York, a laptop computer, a Wacom digital design tablet and a T-shirt with a picture of the winning doogle. The winner's shcool will receive a $25,000 grant. For information, see www.google.com/doogle4google

scholarship

The Kenai Borough Employees Association scholarship committee is accepting appications for three scholarships of $500 each. The scholarships are available to all 2010 graduates of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, including public, private and home schools. Applications and instructions are available from any KPB high school counselor's office or on the borough's Web site, www.borough.kenai.ak.us. Applications must be delivered or postmarked by March 31. They can be mailed or dropped off at the Kenai Peninsula Borough, KBEA Scholarship Committee, 144 N. Brinkley St., Soldotna, AK 99669.

The American Cancer Society has kicked off its 2010 Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program, offering young cancer survivors an opportunity to pursue post-secondary education. The program provides funds each academic year in increments of $2,500 per student, with a lifetime scholarship limit of $10,000. Application deadline is Feb. 26. For information, call the Great West Division Patient Service Center at (866) 500-3272 or the National Cancer Information Center at (800) 227-2345.

The Alaska State Employees Association, Kachemak Bay Chapter, is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500 to a graduating senior from the Kachemak Bay area. The scholarship is available to a senior wanting to further his/her education at an accredited college, university or technical shcool. Deadline for submitting an application is April 1. Applications are availbale through school counselors or at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game front desk.

Applicants are now being sought by Rotary International for scholarships to earn a two-year masters-level degree in international studies and peace and conflict resolution. Rotary International will award 60 such scholarships to six universities worldwide later this year. Nominees will be forwarded from District 5010 to Rotary International through a selection process set to begin immediatley. Awards will be for the 2001-2013 term. Become an exchange student

Local high school students interested in becoming exchange students in many different European countries, Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa are being sought by the nonprofit ASSE International Student Exchange Program, formerly American Scandinavian Student Exchange. Exchange students live with a caring host family while attending high school and learning about the language and culture of their chosen host country. Students interested in becoming an exchange student abroad for either an academic year, semester or summer program should call (800) 733-2773.
