Homer Alaska - Letters

Sunday, Feb. 13, was sunny, but very cold for the skiers who braved the breeze to enjoy the Lookout Mountain Trails for the Wine and Cheese and Wooden Ski Tour. Quite a few of the participants used wooden skis and bamboo poles or wore a mix of vintage, wool or hand knit apparel. A hilly tour brought the skiers to a private home where samples of wine and mead from the Grog Shop, Bear Creek Winery and Ring of Fire Meadery were appreciated. A collection of delicious cheeses from Save U More and Maura's Deli were complemented with samples of crackers. After warming up, skiers took to the trails again and arrived at a wonderful outside bonfire and a warming cabin where they sampled more varieties. Finally, door prizes were drawn and the skiers headed off to their cars.
