Kindness response
Kindness Without Borders has been working on a project to send gift packages to local military personnel stationed in Iraq. In the course of contacting their families to reconfirm accurate military addresses for each of the soldiers, I became aware that some of their family members are in strong disagreement with what they perceive to be Kindness Without Borders' purpose in sending these packages.

In order to be clear and open about our goal, I have attached a verbatim copy of the letter that we sent with each care package. Our one goal was to extend a caring hand to people living through a difficult time in a war zone. I hope the packages are received in this light.

Kate Finn

Editor's note: The following excerpts are from the Kindness Without Borders letter included in the gift packages.

"While our group is not in alignment with President Bush's approach to peace in the Middle East, we do feel a kinship with you as local people, Alaskans and as fellow human beings in our world community. We received donations from several businesses who were happy to contribute to this package. Each of them sends their desire for your greatest well-being as do we! As we all work toward peace in our own way, please take care of yourself. Love, Kindness Without Borders."
