The Bunnell Street Gallery announces a call for entries for a national "Water" theme exhibition. Up to 35 artists will be invited to submit painting, sculpture, photography, video and other media for national exhibition. The show will be held in May. Submissions must include up to three slides of the works intended for exhibition as well as an artist's statement and resume. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of slides. Celtic sounds in Seldovia
The Seldovia Arts Council will present Patrick Ball on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Susan B. English School commons. The presentation, titled "Celtic Harp and Story," is a collection of light-hearted, humorous tales and beautiful Celtic harp music featuring compositions by Turlough O'Carolan. Ball has been called one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world today and a captivating storyteller. Tickets are $15. For more information, call 234-7614.
Wood holds percussion workshop
As part of a multi-week workshop with percussionist Eddie Wood and a Homer High School math class taught by Dotti Harness, the Bunnell Street Gallery will hold a workshop March 6 at 6 p.m. The class will emphasize the connection between math and music. Parents, teachers, family and friends are all invited. A suggested donation of $5 will help support future programs like this with all donations going directly to the gallery's education fund.
Visiting author to read
Visiting author Brett Lott will conduct a free public reading at the Bunnell Street Gallery on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Lott is the author of novels, "The Man Who Owned Vermont," "A Stranger's House," "Reedis Beach," "The Hunt Club" and the best-selling novel "Jewel." Lott is writer-in-residence and a professor of English at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. While in Homer, he will also meet with students as a guest lecturer at the campus' writing classes. The program is supported by the University of Alaska Anchorage Department of Creative Writing and the Bunnell Street Gallery.
Chiappone gives reading
Local author Rich Chiappone will give a reading at the Homer Bookstore on Saturday at 6 p.m. Chiappone, who recently moved to Homer, will read from his book of short stories, "Water of an Undetermined Depth." He won the 2002 Robert Traver award for fiction and has published stories in numerous periodicals from Gray's Sporting Journal to Playboy. For more information, call the bookstore at 235-7496.

KBBI concert acts wanted
Public radio station KBBI-AM 890 Homer is now accepting applications from musicians interested in participating in this summer's two-day music festival. The concert will likely be in the Cook Inlet Region Inc. meadow for the last time this summer after 24 years, and concert organizers predict a nostalgic turnout. Fleece contest returns
NOMAR's annual "Piece the Fleece Contest," is back. Entries must be completed by March 10. Entries will be judged in two categories: best use of fleece by adults, and best use of fleece by youth, individual or group effort. Winners of both categories receive a $50 gift certificate. A $100 gift certificate will be awarded to the overall best of show. Entries will be on display March 13 through the end of March. For more information, call 235-8363.
Pratt looks for entries
The Pratt Museum is looking for entries for a thematic fiber-art exhibit that reflects Alaska's glaciers and volcanoes to accompany "Fire and Ice: Photographs by Brad Lewis and Carmen Field." The deadline for submissions is July 7, and the show will open July 11. Call 235-8635 for more information.
Arts scholarship offered
Ptarmigan Arts Gallery invites any junior or senior in the Homer, Anchor Point, Seldovia, English Bay and Nanwalek area to apply for its visual arts scholarship. Applicants are limited to the visual arts <> painting, film, graphics, fiber, pottery, sculpture etc. The scholarship amount will be a minimum of $600. Deadline for entry is Friday, May 2, 2003.
