Volunteers keep carnival afloat
I would like to thank the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve staff and community volunteers who made our winter carnival float possible. The diversity of costumes and playful spirit showcased the creativity that makes this a special place to live and work.

Thanks to Nancy and Johanna Allen (the clam and octopus), Mike Byerly (the starfish), Rhonda Ecker (the sea peach), Conrad Field (the squirting clam), Robin and MacKenzie Pegau (the orca and sea anemone), Liza and Sammy Walker (the dolphin and fish), Coowe Walker (the squid), Terry Thompson (the diver), and Sara Gilk (assistance in costume preparation). A special thanks is also extended to Russ Walker and Alaska Timberframe for the use of their shop, tools, materials and boom truck services. The Reserve donated the prize money to support the Homer High School team of five students who competed for the Ocean Science Bowl State Championship in Seward last weekend.
