Board of Fisheries begins deliberations at 1 p.m. today

The Alaska Board of Fisheries will begin deliberations on more than 200 proposals beginning at 1p.m. today (Monday). The meeting will be broadcast live over the Internet; find the link at www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=fisheriesboard.main.

While no firm decisions have been made, the reports that came out of the committee meetings that took place last week indicate that the drift fleet can expect to be put in an expanded, modified corridor for one regular opening around July 9, with no option for Area 1, south of Kalgin Island. The modified corridor runs in a straight line from the top outer of the current Kenai District to the bottom outer corner of the Kasilof District.

There appears to be little to no support among board members for changing the mesh depth for the setnet fleet to 29 meshes, or for eliminating the use of single-strand mono-filament web for the drift fleet.
