Rondi was a success

Jennifer Henley

The town was full of excitement last weekend. It seemed everyone had a great time a Snow Rondi. I would like to take a moment to recognize all the hard work that the Anchor Point Chamber puts into this event. Thank you all for what you do. I had the opportunity to see some of the faces of a few of the local kids who went down to the VFW for the fabulous fireworks display. Some of them were seeing fireworks for the first time. There is nothing better than to see a child’s face light up with joy. It just took my breath away.

Looking at my calendar I see that the first day of spring is March 20. I had a hard time with that due to the temperature is a chilly 5 below. And the moose, unbelievable. I counted nine on my way to work and on Saturday there were 11 standing near the river by the North Fork bridge. They were standing so majestic grazing on what they could find by the snow-covered riverbanks. It was like I was watching a Disney movie. So keep your eyes wide open. The kids are about to depart school for spring break. Be safe and have a great time off.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce

There is a meeting at 1 p.m. Friday at the chamber office for planning of Memorial Weekend events. If you would like to help organize this event, please attend the meeting. Now is a good time to give some thought to volunteering a few hours a week to the Visitor Center this summer. The center would like to be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but cannot reach this goal without your help. The Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce board of directors meet the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 7 p.m. at the chamber office. Meetings are open to the public. For more information contact the chamber office at 235-2600 or e-mail us at info@anchorpointchamber.org.

Anchor Point Senior Citizen Center

March 11 will be a benefit dinner for Dawson Slaughter. Prime rib is on the menu, and there will be two seatings — at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The guest cook will be Steve Chmielowiec. Bingo night is at 7 p.m. Friday. Tonight’s dinner will be raspberry chicken breast, salmon cakes, rice pilaf, baked potatoes, green salad and dessert.

Anchor Point Library

It’s a great time to pick up a book. Looking for a great recipe? Yes, the library even has cookbooks. Storytime is at 1 p.m. Saturday for kids of all ages with an “In the Forest” theme. Raising the Reader storytime for preschoolers in conjunction with the Family Learning Center in Homer is at 1:30 p.m. every Friday. New hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Chapman School

The school will be off for spring break from March 3-10.

VFW Post 10221

A big thank you to all who put in so much volunteer time for the Snow Rondi Celebration. Saturday from 6-8 p.m. is the monthly steak night. Karaoke follows dinner. Post meetings will be March 12. March 17, there will be a St. Patrick’s Day party along with karaoke. This month’s fish fry will be from 4-6 p.m. March 26.
