Galleries invite public to preview new exhibits

The recent Winter Olympics in Italy and the Arctic Winter Games being held on the Kenai Peninsula from March 5-11 have drawn attention to the human form and its abilities.

That is the inspiration for exhibits at several Homer galleries during the month of March.

Other galleries take advantage of a wide range of subjects, as well as artists.

Bunnell Street Gallery

“The Human Body,” a mixed-media exhibit featuring work by 27 artists from in and out of Alaska, opens with an artist’s talk at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a reception for the public. A members’ reception will be held from 5-6 p.m.

Calien Galleries

The classic form of the human body has captured the attention of the galleries’ artists for the month of March. The exhibit begins with a reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Fireweed Gallery

A two-artist exhibit is featured at the gallery during March. It includes the pottery of Lisa Wood and paintings by Jan Peyton. An opening reception is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Friday.

Homer Council on the Arts

“Squared2,” an exhibit of work by Heather Feaga, will open with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday. There will be live music from 5:30-6:30. Feaga works in a mosaic style, including mixed media painting comprised of multiple smaller squares of line and shape.

Old Inlet Printmaking Studio

Located beneath Bunnell Street Gallery, the studio is having an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Friday.

Picture Alaska art gallery

An exhibit featuring the human athletic form involved in winter sports opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. The work of nine artists will be highlighted.

Ptarmigan Arts Back Room Gallery

“Kenai River Queens,” a collaborative show by artist Sue Caswell and Lisa Kent, opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m.

Caswell creates masks of molded cement, embellished with items that reflect the nature of the individuals from whom the masks gets their shape.

Kent works with papier mache, adding paint to the textured surface.
