Help for Heartburn

By Tresa Erickson

The older you get, the more heartburn you seem to experience. What once occurred two or three times a year now occurs monthly, if not weekly. Isn't there some way you can put an end to the madness? Perhaps, but only if you are willing to make some changes in your diet and the way you eat.

Many acidic and high-fat foods irritate the stomach lining and reduce pressure in the lower sphincter muscle, compromising its ability to stop stomach acids from splashing back up into the esophagus and causing heartburn. In order to find out exactly what foods cause you heartburn, you must keep a food diary. Only then will you know for certain what you should and should not be eating.
