Alaskans' generosity speaks volumes

The world is watching as Haiti rebuilds the country following January's devastating earthquake. We are seeing selflessness, camaraderie and tender acts of humanity every day.

I want to thank the men and women of Alaska who have traveled to Haiti to help in these efforts. As the former commander of the Alaska Air National Guard, I have such a sense of pride in our military members who have recently returned from their missions there.

But it is not just Alaska's military, active, guard and reserve who are in Haiti making a difference. Alaska pilots, doctors and missionaries are providing much needed services in Haiti. We have often seen tragedy bring out the best in Alaskans. The lengths to which neighbor will go to help neighbor. These Alaskans are willing to travel thousands of miles to aid those in need. It speaks volumes about them and about the generosity of spirit in this great state.

Thank you to all Alaskans who have given time, money or prayer to help Haiti.

Lt. Gov. Craig E. Campbell
