Food project kicks off
For the second year, a local grassroots volunteer group known as HOPE Help, Organize, Promote and Enrich our Community is gathering donations of nonperishable food items to be distributed through the Homer Community Food Pantry.
The collection, known as the Hunger Moon Project, began Wednesday and continues through April. Containers have been placed at Safeway and Save-U-More, with posters and information asking people to purchase extra items while shopping, and place the items in the containers. Especially needed by the food pantry at this time are canned corn and beans.
