If they can't make it into the top three at Regions then that means the end of the season for the Ms, who will not be headed to state in Anchorage if they can't pick up the slack.
On Feb. 26 the boys just couldn't keep up as Kodiak swiftly outpaced the Ms' offense early in the first quarter and led at that half by a score of 30-19.
An abysmal two-point third quarter led to a late game 16-point scoring rally on the part of the Mariners, but it just wasn't enough as Homer lost to Kodiak 51-36.
The next night the Ms managed a similar fourth-quarter rally, but were down before they even started, being outscored by the bears 26-7 in the first quarter and going into the locker rooms at the half down by 20.
The Ms managed to stop some of the bleeding, and outscored the Bears 16-8 in the final period, but couldn't make up for the huge point-debt coming out of the first half.
The Mariner boys are currently seventh in the Northern Lights Conference with a record of 2-8 with a season record of 9-14.
