Poor reporting hurts community
Allow me to compliment Michael Hawfield in his eloquent and accurate writing in Point of View published in last week’s paper. I would like to reiterate his words for emphasis. “Either print the full outcome of the charges or don’t print anything at all. Certainly, this takes more time and care, but that is what it takes to do the job ethically. As it is, this is poor, biased reporting and a cheap way to fill blank space and sell newspapers.” He goes to further state, “...spend the effort and money to report on the outcome of these charges. Then indeed, the public will have been informed.”
The damages of accentuating the weaknesses of one another is merely revictimizing the victim. The assumptions of others may be costly to the well-being of the individual and to the family. A healthy community works together toward encouragement of its members.
