Break-ins on the rise in Anchor Point

It has been a tough first part of the year for the Anchor Point community. I have heard about many break-ins recently. It seems we have some restless people with nothing better to do than steal. It is so sad to believe that someone, or some people, would go into another’s place of business or their homes and take what they want. Do these people have no heart? If you know of anyone, or have some clues to some of these break-ins, please call Alaska State Troopers at 235-8239.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce

The Community Association will at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the chamber office.

The next luncheon is set for noon Wednesday at the Anchor River Inn. There will be two guest speakers: Tom Hagberg, who is with the South Peninsula Sportsman Association, and Jan Peyton, who is with Kachemak Bay College and will talk about GEDs.

Anchor Point Senior Citizen Center

Tonight’s dinner will have two different choices: a pork chop or lasagna. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. Cost is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. There will be a prime rib benefit dinner for Dawson Slaughter on Saturday with seatings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. The special guest cook for this event is Steve Chmielowiec. There also will be quilt raffles. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased from senior center members or at the senior center. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. The drawing will be June 15.

Community Emergency Response Team

Hello, CERT members!

Thankfully February is over. The parade was fun; CERT members passed out lots of candy (thanks, Sandy and Ray Newton) and blinky reflectors (thank you, Kenai Peninsula Borough Local Emergency Planning Committee) to all the kids. Vada Moore volunteered her “little blue bomb” and Sara Roderick marched the whole strip with me. What a trooper. We definitely got our exercise.

Tonight’s meeting will be on Unit 4, Disaster Medical Operations. Bring a blanket, roller gauze (if you’ve got some), adhesive tape and cardboard. For those who missed the triage, there will be a triage review plus a little education on how the EMTs do theirs at 7 p.m. March 16 at the senior center. That means something a little new and updated for those who already have their certification.

In Mid-April the EMT-1s will finish up training and be doing practices. They are inviting CERT participation for a little cross-training.

A reminder: CERT members must always find their replacements. If you no longer want to be involved or plan to move away, please bring back your gear so it can be put to use.

March 17 will be the St. Patrick’s Day party. There will be karaoke with Tom, and there is always plenty of food and lots of fun. The monthly fish fry will be from 4-6 p.m. March 26. All members and guests are welcome. Members, don’t forget to come to the meetings which are every second Sunday of the month. The next meetings are very important because there will be nominations for office.
