Activists did not taunt and jeer
Last month a letter published in this paper by Doug Ruzicka referred to “taunting and jeering by the protesters and Homer High students” during military recruitment efforts last Jan. 19. The Anchorage Daily News reprinted this smear in a subsequent article which prompted an inquiry which resulted in the following published correction: “That statement did not accurately portray events at the high school, according to witnesses. The three activists involved stood silently near the recruiting table with a sign and leaflets until they were led from the school by police. The school principal and the Marine recruiters present say they did not hear every comment made by students at the time, but they did not consider anything they heard taunting and jeering.”
We know that if you give a lie a half-hour head start, the truth will never catch up; yet we must still do our best.
