The Homer boys packed their bags and hung up their court shoes for the season after a first round knockout from Colony 53-36 and a second round elimination squeaker against Kodiak 42-40 at last weekend's region basketball tournament in Skyview. Colony took control of the game early on and never let up, leading the Ms at the end of the half by a score of 19-15 before a breakout 21-point third quarter put the game out of reach. While Homer was outscored in all but the last quarter against Colony, the Mariners managed to turn things around and gave Kodiak a run for its money, after losing to the Bears twice on the road just last weekend. Homer went into the second quarter with a narrow one-point advantage over Kodiak, but the Bears quickly tipped the scales back in their favor, knocking down 14 to the Mariners' 10, and holding that sliver of a lead they gained going into the half over the next two quarters and thwarted all Mariner efforts to come back. The Mariners finished out the 2009-2010 season with a 2-10 conference record and 9-16 overall.
