Homer Alaska - Sports

Homer's Diana Carbonell took second place in the 40K women's freestyle at Sunday's 23rd Tour of Anchorage.

Thousands of skiers turned out for the event, including nearly 40 skiers from Homer.

The Tour of Anchorage was a part of the American Ski Marathon Series, featuring 25k, 40k and 50k races for local skiers and for competitors from around the world.

Twisting and turning right around the city itself, skiers started either at Service High School or Russian Jack Chalet depending on their race and crossed the finish line at Kincaid Park.

Carbonell finished just eight seconds behind the top placer, Toni Sparrow of Anchorage, coming in with a time of 2:04:15.4
