Mark Borchardt, a 10-year pilot for Bering, hit his head in the crash and was taken to the Maniilaq Medical Center. He received approximately 30 stitches and was released.
The plane was on final approach to Kotzebue's Wein Memorial Airport in high winds and white-out conditions when it crashed less than a mile from its destination.
Dave Olson, Bering's director of operations, hasn't determined exactly what caused the crash-landing.
"The weather was kind of poor at the time," Olson said "We've never had a Caravan accident before. At this point we don't believe there was any ice involved. Except what he landed on."
