Spring weather hard to find as season nears

Now that we have sprung ahead, we need to convince Spring to take the next big leap and spring upon us. I just can’t imagine the Easter Bunny hiding all those eggs in the snow. Sure hope he remembers to color them this year; otherwise, I think they will be really hard to spot. With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, I am thinking of great Irish sayings. One of my favorites is: “May your home always be too small to hold all your friends.” During the cold days we are having, it’s always good to check up on those friends and neighbors who are not able to get out in the winter weather. Have a great week and be safe. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Beta Sigma Phi

Thanks to you the Anchor Point Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Xi Upsilon, is offering a $750 scholarship to a graduating senior living within the Anchor Point Fire Service District. The deadline for this scholarship is April 14. Graduating seniors from Anchor Point should check with their school counselor for the application.

Senior Citizen Center

The center is in the process of starting a waiting list for the four-unit senior housing facility unit that will be built this year.  Anyone interested in getting on the waiting list is asked to contact the center at 235-7786.

Bingo is every Friday starting at 7 p.m. Tonight’s dinner is corned beef and cabbage. The center is having a quilt raffle; the winner will be drawn on Mother’s Day. This beautiful quilt was made and donated by Pam Goesch. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.

Disaster Response Group

This group is involved in a car-crushing project in Anchor Point. It wants to get rid of all the junk cars in Anchor Point so they are not left around to leak fluids into surrounding waters. Grants are being worked on and plans are being made.

The group needs your support. Those who want to clean up Anchor Point and support this project can help by writing a letter of support that will be used with grant applications.

The letter should include something about you and your role in our community. These can be dropped by the Anchor Point Senior Center or mailed to Amy Cox at P. O. Box 438, Anchor Point, AK 99556. For more information, call 235-7786.

Remember, soda pop cans can be donated to the Anchor Point Youth Committee. There is a drop-off box at the senior center, inside the door.
