Spring coming in Anchor Point

It’s official. March 20 is the first day of spring. Hmmm, well, I will take that into consideration if the weather gets above 30 degrees. But we do know before long we will be catching a glimpse of buds popping out to spread their colors. That is, if we can catch that look before one of those four-legged creatures decide its their breakfast for the morning. Be safe and have a great week.

Chamber of Commerce

Alaska Attorney General David Marquez will be the guest speaker at the chamber’s March 22 luncheon, which begins at noon at the Anchor River Inn.

Senior Citizen Center

I had the opportunity to view the two beautiful quilts being auctioned off by the senior center while attending the Dawson Slaughter Benefit on Saturday. (By the way, the food was fabulous.) You definitely don’t want to miss out on a chance to buy a raffle ticket on these quilts, which are both homemade with lots of love and care. The tickets are on sale for $2 each or three for $5. The tickets can be purchased from one of the members or at the center. The drawing will be June 15.

CERT training

For those who missed the triage, there will be a triage review plus a little education on how the EMTs do their triage at 7 tonight at the senior center.

In mid-April, the EMT 1s will finish their training and do practices. They are inviting CERT participation for a little cross-training. A reminder: CERT members must always find their replacements. If you no longer want to be involved or plan to move away, please bring back your gear so it can be put to use.

VFW Post 10221

There will be a St. Patty’s Day celebration Friday. There will be corned moose, corned beef and cabbage and all the other fixings. Karaoke will begin at 8 p.m. The monthly fish fry will be 4-6 p.m. March 26. The monthly steak night will be 6-8 p.m. April 1. Then, it’s time for some fun at the “Fools Ball.” There will be prizes for best dressed fool, the best homemade hat and the best homemade footwear. Karaoke will begin at 8 p.m.

Community News

The Anchor Point Advisory Planning Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Anchor Point Senior Center. This will be an opportunity for the community to give their input.

The Memorial Weekend Donation Committee also will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, but at this writing the meeting place is unknown. The general organization will meet at the chamber office at 7 p.m. March 23.
