Borough seeks aid for Japanese sister city

The Kenai Peninsula Borough has established a tax-exempt fund for donations to assist Akita, Japan, and the tsunami relief work. For a decade, the Kenai Peninsula Borough has had a "Sister City" relationship with Akita. The borough learned Monday that while there is significant earthquake damage to the city, residents are dealing with that as well as supporting efforts to assist those impacted by the tsunami. Akita is in the north of Honshu Island on the west coast. The earthquake and tsunamis were centered on the east coast of Honshu.

Donations can be brought into or mailed to the Borough Mayor's Office, 144 Binkley St., Soldotna, Alaska 99669, or to Bridge Community Resource Network, Box 1612, Soldotna, Alaska 99669. Bridges is located in the Credit Union 1 Mall in Soldotna.
