Anchor Point man arrested for DUI, two counts of endangering a child

BY MICHAEL ARMSTRONG

Following a 911 call March 11 of a vehicle in the ditch on the Anchor River Road with the driver smelling of alcohol, Alaska State Troopers arrested an Anchor Point man for driving under the influence. David R. McDonough, 42, also faces a charge of driving while license revoked and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

In a criminal complaint, Trooper John Probst said when he encountered McDonough about 1:30 p.m. in his red Dodge Durango, the driver smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. Two children, ages 5 and 7, also were in the car along with another adult. Probst said he found an open bottle of vodka on the front seat.

Probst alleged McDonough failed field sobriety tests and could not count backward from 69 or recite the alphabet from E to P. In a data master breath-alcohol test at the Homer Jail about 3:20 p.m., Probst said McDonough had a .395 breath-alcohol level, almost five times the legal limit of .08 and close to the level that can lead to unconsciousness and death from respiratory failure.
