Bahai's of Homer invite the community to celebrate Naw-Ruz, the new year, a multi-faith celebration of the spiritual springtime from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the Homer Council on the Arts. Bring a personal devotional item to share on a common altar, a personal prayer or poem and a potluck dish.

A public meeting as part of the federal performance evaluation of the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve is 6 p.m. April 29, at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center Seminar Room. The purpose of the meeting is to receive public comments on the operation and implementation of the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve since its April 2006 evaluation. Written comments should be sent to L. Christine McCay, NOAA/NOS/OCRM, 1305 East-West Highway, N/ORM7, Silver Spring, MD 20910, or via e-mail to chris.mccay@noaa.gov no later than April 15. Hunters who want to register black-bear baiting stations in units 6D, 7, 14A, 14B, 15, 16A or 20B are required to take baiting clinics unless they have successfully completed a prior clinic. Three sessions are offered at 6 p.m. March 26 at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building, 40610 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Kenai; 6 p.m. April 1 at the AVTEC Building, 1912 Leirer Road, Seward, and 6 p.m. April 24 at the Kenai Peninsula Sport and Recreation Show, Soldotna. The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies has a free snowshoe loan program 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, at 708 Smokey Bay Way. Call 235-6667.

The Homer Public Health Center, 195 E. Bunnell Ave., now offers appointments only for all services from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. To schedule an appointment for immunizations or other public health nursing services, call 235-8857.
