Lifelong Port Graham resident Dorothy "Lady" Claudia Moonin, 72, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at her home in Port Graham. Funeral services were held March 12, 2009, at St. Herman Russian Orthodox Church in Port Graham. Viewing was held at the church. Father Sergie Active officiated. Pallbearers were Reuben, Kyle, Kristan, Andrew and Nikolai Norman. She was laid to rest at the Port Graham Cemetery.

"Lady was a loving and devoted wife, mother, umma and sister. She loved her family deeply, all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and god children. They all loved her very much. She was a wonderful cook and baker, known for her rice salad, Native foods, delicious cakes, Easter bread, homemade jams and jellies. Lady was always willing to help out and donate her time to the St. Herman Russian Orthodox Church and the village whenever asked. She was a respected elder in the community. She fought a courageous battle against cancer with such strength and grace. She will be greatly missed by her family and the whole village," wrote the family.
Mrs. Moonin was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Minnie Carlough; brother, Robert Carlough; and aunt, Augusta Kvasnikoff. She is survived by her husband John N. Moonin of Port Graham; son, Wayne Norman of Port Graham; son and daughter in-law, Patrick and Francis Norman of Port Graham; daughter, Marlene Norman of Port Graham; sons, Martin and Randy Norman both of Port Graham; son and daughter in-law, Gordon and Becky Norman of Port Graham; brother, Jimmy Carlough of Akhiok; and brother and sister in-law, Victor and Jennie Carlough of Port Graham.

Mrs. Moonin was born March 21, 1936, to Jim and Minnie (Yaknak) Carlough in Port Graham. She was a homemaker and cannery worker. Mrs. Moonin was a member of St. Herman Russian Orthodox Church. She enjoyed gardening, homemaking, cooking, baking, beachcombing, skiff riding, driving out to Windy and Rocky Bay to eat humpy salmon and drink tea.
