Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on East End Road. Burial is at Hickerson Cemetery. Bishop Garth Bradshaw officiates at the service.
Mr. Stanish Jr. was born Nov. 10, 1947 in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Alaska in 1992, residing in Homer. He had also worked for the Social Security Administration.
His hobbies included gold mining.
His family said, "He was a great story teller. He also loved gold mining, cooking and family get togethers."
Mr. Stanish Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Stanish Sr., his mother, Marilyn Flaherty, and a son, Kevin Stanish.
He is survived by his life companion, Mary Martin; children, Stephen III, Rainer, Eric, Daniel, Rachael, Christopher, Nicole, Holly and Meghan Stanish and Jennifer Mueller; grandchildren, Ariel, Anastasia, Cierra, Melanie, Jonathon and Trevor Stanish; his stepfather, Alfred Flaherty; five sisters and two brothers.
Arrangements were made by Homer Funeral Home.
