The southern Kenai Peninsula, as of early Monday afternoon, is not in the path of falling ash from Redoubt Vocano, which erupted a total of five times between 10:38 p.m. Sunday night and 4:30 a.m. Monday morning, according to projections from the Alaska Volcano Observatory. Prevailing winds Monday morning sent ash from Redoubt in a north to northeast direction toward the Susitna Valley and the communities of Willow, Talkeetna and Cantwell. Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage remains open but some flights have been cancelled.
