The deadline for the Homer Electric Association Youth Rally in Idaho is April 3. High school sophomores and juniors can apply to attend an expense-paid week in Caldwell, Idaho, in July to enhance leadership skills, learn about electric cooperatives and participate in team-building exercises. Apply online at www.homerelectric.com or at the HEA office.

Another youth opportunity through HEA is the Safety Poster Contest. Open to third- and fourth-grade students, young artists can enter in the categories of Best Electric Safety Message, Most Humorous Safety Message and Most Creative Safety Message. Prizes include a savings bond, a plaque and a framed poster for the student's school. Enter by April 3. Call Marianne Snowden at 235-3328.

Cook Inletkeeper holds a training session for people interested in becoming a water quality monitor. Volunteers learn to monitor streams for acidity, dissolved oxygen, temperature and bacteria. Three free training sessions are 6-8:30 p.m. April 15 and 16 and noon-3 p.m. April 18. Call Rachel at 235-4068, ext. 29, or rachel@inletkeeper.org to sign up.

The Kachemak Bay Research Reserve seeks people to serve on its nine-member community council. Apply by 5 p.m. April 24. Call 226-4656 or e-mail terry.thompson@alaska.gov.

Hunters who want to register black-bear baiting stations in units 6D, 7, 14A, 14B, 15, 16A or 20B are required to take baiting clinics unless they have successfully completed a prior clinic. Three sessions are offered at 6 p.m. March 26 at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building, 40610 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Kenai; 6 p.m. April 1 at the AVTEC Building, 1912 Leirer Road, Seward, and 6 p.m. April 24 at the Kenai Peninsula Sport and Recreation Show, Soldotna. The Kachemacs Macintosh User Group meets the first Thursday of the month at the Homer Public Library from 6-8 p.m. Call Diane at 235-0714 for more information.

The Ohlson Mountain rope tow hours of operation are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays, conditions permitting. Call 235-7669 for updates.

The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies has a free snowshoe loan program 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, at 708 Smokey Bay Way. Call 235-6667.

The Homer Public Health Center, 195 East Bunnell Ave., now offers appointments only for all services from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. To schedule an appointment for immunizations or other public health nursing services, call 235-8857.
