The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra will hold a combined concert with the Anchorage Civic Orchestra on Saturday, April 5 at 8 p.m. at the Mariner Theatre. Dance lecture coming
The Bunnell Street Gallery will host a lecture and demonstration by Karola Luttringhaus on Sunday at 8 p.m. Luttringhaus is the artistic director of the Alban Elved Dance Company founded in 1997 in Germany. The talk will feature a screening of the "MIDI" dance, which uses a Musical Instrument Digital Interface converter to create a musical piece on stage. Admission is $10 general admission, $7 gallery members and $9 seniors. Tickets are available at the door.
Auditions being held
Pier One Theatre announces the opening of its 2003 summer theater season. Auditions for "Lysistrata," a comedy by Aristophanes, will be held at the Mariner Theatre on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The play will require a cast of 15 men and 15 women of all ages and levels of experience. Performances will be in late May and early June. Carolyn Norton will direct the production. Scripts are available at the library. The director advises the public that her chosen translation of the play contains some explicit language and that the play will be staged in the traditional Greek fashion. Jazz music on tap
The Homer High School jazz band will host a special evening of music at the Quarter Deck of Land's End Resort on Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m. The evening of music, including Steve Smith and the Homer Jazz Ensemble, is a fund-raiser for the Homer High School Band's upcoming trip to the International Music Festival in Hawaii. Scholarship offered
The Homer Council on the Arts is looking for applications for its fine art scholarships from students who seriously wish to continue their artistic endeavors during the summer months. These scholarships are available to Homer students currently enrolled in grades six-11. Applications are available at local schools or at the arts council building on Pioneer Avenue. Conversation on tap
The Pratt Museum hosts another in its series of community conversation, with this month's topic being "Dumb Things We Have Done with Bears." The discussion will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, and will be facilitated by Deland Anderson.
