The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring Girls State, an objective citizenship-training program
The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring Girls State, an objective citizenship-training program which inculcates individual responsibility to the community, state and nation. Participants explore the structure of Alaska’s political government organization on all levels, from the municipality to the state. Girls will run for political office, learn to write bills and how a bill goes through both houses and becomes a law. Candidates must be a junior girl in high school at the present time. Home school, Seldovia, Homer, or other students are invited. The camp will be June 10-16 at Meier Lake Conference Center near Wasilla. The American Legion Auxiliary pays for registration and travel. Applications may be picked up at the Homer High School counselors office, Homer Public Library, and the American Legion. Interview with applicants will be April 16 starting at 11:30 a.m. in the HHS counselors office. For more information, call 235-8864, 235-2578 or 235-6789.
