Spring finally arrives in Anchor Point

Here comes Peter Cotton Tail, hopping down the bunny trail. It’s nice that the sun has made its way to the Kenai Peninsula. Just in time to shake that cabin fever. Good luck to all who are participating in the Winter King tournament. Have a great weekend and be safe.

The Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce guest speaker April 4 will be Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor John Williams. A reminder to all members: Make sure the chamber is stocked with all your brochures, business cards and other materials. The tourist season soon approaches.

Thanks to you, the Anchor Point Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Xi Upsilon, is offering a $750 scholarship to a graduating senior living within the Anchor Point fire service district. Deadline to apply is April 14. Graduating seniors from Anchor Point, check with your school counselor for the application.

Anchor Point Senior Citizen Center is developing a waiting list for the four-unit senior housing facility to be built this year. Anyone interested in getting on the waiting list is asked to contact the senior center at 235-7786. Bingo is every Friday at 7 p.m. Tonight’s dinner is turkey with all the fixings.

The center is having a quilt raffle with a drawing on Mother’s Day. This quilt was made and donated by Pam Goesch. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

If you haven’t already heard about the car-crushing project, there is an effort under way to get rid of all the junk cars in Anchor Point, so they are not left around to leak fluids into the water, rivers and then fish. Grants are being worked on and plans are being made. If you want to clean up Anchor Point and support this project, write a letter of support that will be used with our grant applications. Be sure in the letter you have something about you and your role in the community. Drop your letters by the Anchor Point Senior Center or mail them to Amy Cox at P. O. Box 438, Anchor Point, AK 99556. For more information on this project, call 235-7786.

The Anchor Point Youth Committee is collecting soda pop cans. There is a drop-off box at the senior center inside the door.

VFW Post 10221’s annual easter egg hunt will be at 1 p.m. April 8. This is for all ages. The VFW’s next steak night is April 7 from 6-8 p.m. Karaoke with Tom will follow dinner starting at 9 p.m. Elections will be at the next meeting on April 15.
