April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate, the Alaska State Council on the Arts has published a calendar of poems for April at www.eed.state.ak.us.aksca. Alaska Poet Laureate Jerah Chadwick selected the 30 poems included in the calendar. The writers are: National Poetry Month was inaugurated in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to bring together publishers, booksellers, literary organizers, schools and poets to celebrate poetry and its place in American culture. The Academy’s National Poetry Month Web site, at www.poets.org/npm, offers a list of celebrations around the country.
