Verda McAlmond

Longtime Ninilchik resident Verda McAlmond, 89, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care in Homer. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. McAlmond was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Creighton, Neb.

Verda McAlmond

"She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many. She was a strong yet tender lady with a big heart and was loved by all. She was a beautiful person both inside and out and cherished a good sense of humor most in life. She was born and raised in Nebraska but her path in life led her through the states of California, Oregon and then finally settling down in the state of Alaska in the early 1970s with her husband, Fred. She spent several years in Anchorage and also some time in the North Pole before settling down in Ninilchik. It was there that they spent the rest of their years enjoying the peace and tranquility of their home on the hill. Ninilchik brought many close and dear friends to Verda that were dear to her heart, and she enjoyed the time with them. Loved by all, she will be greatly missed," her family said.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred McAlmond.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
