Vanchai Mongkol-Ua-Aree




Former Homer resident Vanchai Mongkol-Ua-Aree, 60, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Muldoon Community Assembly.


 

Vanchai Mongkol-Ua-Aree

Vanchai was born Feb. 17, 1949, in Bangkok, Thailand. He received his associates in science degree from Mt. San Jacinto College. He furthered his education with many other certifications in the field of radiology. He worked many years as a radiology technican. In 1969, he worked at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. From 1970-1990, he worked at the Hemet Valley Hospital in Hemet, Calif., and from 1991 until 2001, he worked at McKenzie-Willamette Hospital in Eugene, Ore.. Vanchai came to Alaska in 2002, working at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer, retiring in 2003.

He was a regular member of the Muldoon Community Assembly. He loved to buy, and sell watches on aBay and to repair clocks. He also loved clam digging and halibut fishing.

His family stated: "Whether you knew him as Vanchai, Van, Pop or Daddy, his gentle spirit and compassion for others defined his life; a life we were so fortunate to be a part."

Van is survived by his partner, Elizabeth Aree, Anchorage; his daughter, Sarah Aree, Anchorage; and his son, Joseph Mongkol-Ua-Aree, Gardnerville, Nev.
