Ring of Fire Meadery brings home the gold

The Ring of Fire Meadery in Homer has won six medals, four of them gold, at the 2011 Mazer Cup International, which was held last weekend in Boulder, Colo.

The winning medals are gold for the Cosmic Mead, gold for the Tart Cherry Reserve, gold for the Vanilla Bean Mead and gold for the Local Raspberry Melomel.

Bronze medals were awarded for both the Local Press Apple Mead, and Alaska (Fireweed) Mead made with local honey from the meadery's own apiary, or bee yard.

During the competition, more than 500 meads were judged from all over the United States and around the world. "It was quite an exceptional field this year," stated one of the judges.

Ring of Fire also boasts that its product is one of the few fermented beverages in the world that does not contain added sulfites.

Ring of Fire is expanding with the addition of three new 500-gallon, stainless steel temperature-controlled mead vessels.

The owners encourage beekeepers, fruit growers and wild harvesters from all over the state to contact them as they are very interested in purchasing local honey and fruit. The website is www.ringoffiremeadery.com; the phone number is (907) 235-2656.
