Kenai Peninsula Borough SChool District

District:

April 22: No school.

April 27: KPBSD, in collaboration with the Alaska Department of Transportation and city of Soldotna, holds "Alaska Construction Career Day," Soldotna Sports Center.

Chapman School

Today: Pre-K and kindergarten open house, 6-7 p.m.

Through April 15: Pre-K and kindergarten registration.

April 15: Grades 5-6 to KPC in Homer.

April 26: Mass choir.

April 28: Science fair.

April 28: Spring concert, grades Pre-K through 8.

Connections

Through today: Required SBA/HSGQE testing for all Connections students in grades 3-10 and HSGQE retakes for students in grades 11-12. Students must arrive at testing locations by 8:45 a.m. Contact Homer Connections office for locations.

Note: Registration is open for Homer Connections grades 7-12 to attend an overnight field trip to Kasitsna Bay April 19-20. The trip will focus on exploring the intertidal zones of Jakalof and Kasitsna beaches. The trip is sponsored by Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. Pre-registration is required.

Fireweed Academy, Grades 3-6

May 4-6: Spring field trip, grades 3-5.

May 5: Math bowl, grade 6.

May 9-11: Kasitsna Bay field trip, grade 6.

Homer High School

April 30: Prom.

May 23: Graduation.

Homer Middle School

April 15: Students demonstrate new performance skills, including haiku slam poetry, learned during Brian Hutton's artist-in-residency, 2:15 p.m. Everyone who has volunteered this year is invited. The student performance will be followed by a thank-you reception for all the volunteers. The artist-in-residence was partially funded by Bunnell Street Arts Center, supported by grants from the Alaska State Council on the Arts, Rasmuson Foundation, Homer Foundation, Jazzline and ERA Aviation.

April 21: Track Soldotna invite, 3 p.m.

April 26: Mass choir, Homer High School.

April 30: Track Nikiski Invite, 10 a.m.

McNeil Canyon Elementary School

April 18-22: National Volunteer Appreciation Week.

April 19: Science fair.

April 21: Volunteer lunch, noon.

April 26: Community council meeting, 12:30 p.m.

April 26: Spotlight lunch honoring the following students: Bristol Johnson, Jenna Lapp, Hannah Stonorov, Merrik Yeoman, Levi Skalisky, Adeline Berry, Marina Greear, McKenzy Johnson, Mac Kesey, Tanner Reid, Zoe Stonorov, Emmet Wilkinson, Rebecca Wythe, Aaron Toro, Zasima Martushev, Josette Yeoman, Rhythm Beckett-Cook, Sammy Walker, Koby Etzwiler, and Spencer Warren. Parents are invited to join their child and the principal for lunch, 11:25 a.m.

Paul Banks Elementary School

Susan B. English School

West Homer Elementary School

May 3: PTO, 4:45 p.m.

Programs

Homer Head Start is accepting applications for 3- to 5-year-olds for the 2011-2012 year. All are welcome. Center-based and home-based programs. For information, call 235-4322.
