Homer cleans up Saturday, May 2

Editor's Note: Students in Carol Demers' fourth-grade class at West Homer Elementary School wrote the following letters to encourage residents to participate in Cleanup Day on May 2.

Homer is having a Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 2. I hope everyone will help. We need to make Homer a clean town for tourists and ourselves.

There are a lot of prizes. Bikes and helmets, cash, certificates for Timeless Toys, Homer's Jeans, the bookstore, and lots of other good prizes are there for people who pledge to pick up litter.

Don't you want a clean environment? I hope so. Please stop by the chamber of commerce to get the yellow bags and head out to help clean Homer's beaches and trails.

Riley Wise

I am hoping that everyone will help clean Homer on May 2. If you are an animal lover, you will be helping the animals stay alive that live close to the roads and beaches in Homer. There are a lot of grand prizes like bikes and gift certificates. After you pick up trash there are free hot dogs and drinks at the chamber.

There is a lot of trash behind the high school. The other hot spot is at the beach.

So the chamber of commerce is where you go to get bags, turn in the full bags and have lunch.

See you Saturday, May 2.

Mariah Hendrickson

I think everyone in Homer should be a part of Homer Cleanup Day on May 2, Saturday. I think they should help because I hate seeing all the trash on the sidewalks. I always go on walks and want to pick it up, but I don't want germs on my hands. There will be gloves at the chamber along with the yellow bags for you to use. The chamber is where you will weigh and count the trash picked up.

There are a lot of great prizes -- cash, Timeless Toys certificate, B & B coupons, hair cuts, fuel cards, bookstore certificate, Wildberry candy, coffee cards, Fresh Sourdough lunches and four bikes with helmets.

There will be hot drinks and hot dogs, too. You should help because the birds and animals need a clean environment.

See you there,

Katie Shank

On May 2 at 11 a.m. there is a trash cleanup! Clean up the trash around town then go to the chamber building to put your name in a drawing for a bike. There are a lot of neat prizes like candy, toys, certificates, and bikes. But the BIGGEST prize is a clean town!!!!!!!!!!!!

Animal lovers, if you like to see squirrels and moose, you can help.

We depend on tourists, and if our streets are clean our economy will be better, because you made a difference.!

Hope to see you there!

Be a part of the Homer Cleanup Day on May 2. There will be a bunch of good prizes and you even have a hot dog and drink after you help. The prizes are from all over town. All this is at the chamber of commerce on Saturday. We need to have a clean town for the tourists and everyone should help!

I hope everyone who reads the paper will help with the Homer Cleanup Day. It is May 2. I hope they will help because of the pollution that litter causes. The shorebirds are coming and if we don't clean the beaches they might eat plastic and choke. There are a lot of prizes including four bikes with helmets, cash, coupons and much more.

So go look behind the high school and the trails and beaches and fill the yellow bags that you can get at the chamber with the litter.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

On May 2, Homer has a Cleanup Day planned. There will be great prizes like cash. It begins at 11a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. You can get a free lunch after you spend time collecting trash from the beaches and sidewalks. It helps the birds because they need the land to be clean. But if the birds don't come the tourists won't come. Do you want that? Then come help clean up the town after winter.

Do you want to save animals from eating litter? Then I have something for you --

Trash Cleanup Day. May 2, Saturday. You will get a chance to win prizes for the number of bags brought in to the chamber. But best of all we will have a clean city. The Shorebird Festival is just around the corner. Join us for the fun and the good feeling of helping.

Luv,

Animal Lover, Jaice Barton

I am concerned about how some people in our town think littering is OK. If anyone wants to help change that on May 2, you can pick up trash and have a chance to get a cool prize. A reason to help is that the shorebirds are coming and plastic can get around their neck and they can eat it and choke.

So, people of Homer need to clean the town. To get the yellow trash bags, go the chamber building.

Help our town be a better place for animals and people.

See ya, Ashley Giles

My name is Jarrett Johnson and I am 10 years old. I hope everyone will help clean up Homer's beaches, sidewalks and trails. If you don't help, you can be letting plastic or garbage kill animals and you don't want that! So help clean up Homer and you can even win a prize or cash in doing that on a Saturday morning. I won a bike last year at Cleanup Day. Thank you, Lions Club. This year I want to win cash.

On May 2, there will be a Homer Cleanup Day at the chamber of commerce from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Go to the chamber of commerce to pick up the bags on Friday. On Saturday collect trash and take it to the chamber to get counted and weighed. If you have recycles, save those too. There will be a lot of prizes like bikes, helmets, cash and certificates (even Timeless Toys).

My family likes to bike and we like clean trails so please help our town be clean.

I hope to see you there,

Lauren Kuhns

May 2 is Homer Cleanup Day! If the idea of making our town cleaner isn't enticing enough, there are lots of cool prizes. Four bikes are donated by the Lions Club with helmets from the Homer Fire Department, cash, Timeless Toys certificate, B& B certificates, a haircut, a coffee card, certificates from Homer's Jeans and the bookstore, and many more prizes.

In a tough economy our tourists want a wonderful picture-perfect town. A picture-perfect town doesn't have litter!

Did I forget to say the chamber of commerce is the place to get bags and gloves? When lunch comes around, there will be free hot dogs from noon-3 p.m. When the shorebirds get here, do you want our little bird friends to choke on trash? So on May 2 clean up over our town so it stays beautiful and not a trash-filled town.

See you there!
