On April 18, Alaska State Troopers received a report that someone had broken into a house on Milo Fritz Road in Anchor Point. The break-in occurred sometime around April 9, and investigation revealed that more than $2,000 worth of vandalism was done to the interior of the home.
Troopers ask that anyone with information regarding the break-in call 235-8239.
A 30-year-old Homer resident collided with a moose shortly before 11 p.m. on April 20. The accident occurred near Mile 7 of East End Road.
Andrey Polushkin was driving a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer when a moose crossed in front of him. Polushkin was unable to avoid the moose.
His vehicle suffered nearly $3,000 in damages, and Polushkin suffered a minor injury to his hand. He was wearing his safety belt at the time of the accident.
The moose was not so lucky. The meat was recovered and donated to a local charity.
Alaska State Troopers recently arrested and charged two Anchor Point residents with driving while intoxicated and driving with their licenses revoked.
The pair, 29-year-old Mark Pilant and 31-year-old Shannon Rautio, were speeding, according to the trooper's complaint, and their vehicles crashed into one another. The trooper made contact with them, and immediately smelled alcohol, said Sgt. Jim Hibpshman.
In the complaint, the trooper said that Pilant and Rautio both had bloodshot, watery eyes. Both failed field sobriety tests, and both admitted to drinking and impairment.
Rautio's field-tested blood alcohol level was .186, Pilant's .078.
"(The trooper) ran their plates and it was all downhill for them from there," Hibpshman said. "They were both driving without licenses, so he arrested them both."
Pilant and Rautio were transported to the Homer jail and held on $1,000 bail.
