Dave Skalisky

Kathy Kysar and Dave Skalisky have joined the staff of the Homer News as advertising sales representatives.

Kysar, a former teacher, has a variety of marketing and sales experience, including working in the marketing department for Coldwater Creek and serving as an ad sales rep for the Ruston Daily Leader newspaper in Louisiana. She also has worked as a copywriter, jewelry sales associate and Pampered Chef Consultant.

Immediately before joining the Homer News staff, Kysar was a high school language arts teacher and debate, drama and forensics coach in the village of Kwethluk. She also has taught at Homer High School and Homer Middle School. During her time at both Homer schools, she served as a DDF coach.

Skalisky was a self-employed general contractor in northern California, before moving to Alaska in 1993. The first couple of years he was in Alaska, he commercial fished out of Kodiak aboard the F/V Lady Kathryn.

His business experience includes work as a specialty contractor and owner/operator of Skalisky Woodworks, a cabinet shop near Palmer.

He and his wife, Angie, moved from Palmer to Homer about eight years ago — a fulfillment of Angie's lifelong dream. They have two children who attend McNeil Canyon Elementary School.

In Homer, he has commercial fished and bought and sold several properties in the Homer area, as well as one in Soldotna, to create income.
