Head Coach Mike Olson said the Grizzlies shot out to a 3-0 first-half lead before the Mariners had a chance to pick up the defense.
"We came out a little too passively for my liking, flat, so to speak," he said.
Olson said the Grizzlies used their speed on the flanks to press the Homer defense, something Olson said they will work on in practice.
"Man-marking is something we need to improve upon on the defensive side," he said. "Learning to settle and control the ball in the midfield, especially with increased pressure on ball, is a must for us."
Olson said Justin Adams, Dylan Toole, Brady Boone and Joe Hognin all had solid games despite the loss. "I look for much more from everyone this weekend," he said.
Spotty practice time played a big role in the Mariner loss, Olson said.
"We haven't been able to train outside much leading up to the match," he said. "And I think that this match up was a wake-up call to the boys."
Nic Ravella and Stephen Booher each had two goals for the Grizzlies. They improved their record to 2-0-1.
The Mariners play Skyview and Nikiski this weekend. Both games are away.
