HEA's annual meeting set for May 7 at HHS

Candidates running for election to three seats on the Homer Electric Association board will find out if they're winners next Thursday night, but HEA members also can win -- big time, for one lucky recipient. Up to 10,000 kilowatt hours in energy credit -- a one-year supply of power -- is announced for the mail-in prize drawing at the annual HEA meeting starting at 4:30 p.m. May 7 at Homer High School.

Mail-in and attendance prizes for energy credits of between $50 and $500 also will be drawn at the annual meeting. Winners of the 2009 Safety Poster Contest, the 2009 Scholarship Awards and the 2009 Youth Rally Awards also are announced.

HEA members have until 5 p.m. May 6 to return ballots to the HEA office in Homer, and also can cast ballots in person at the start of the annual meeting. Candidates run for one seat each in districts 1, 2 and 3. The most hotly contested race is for District 3 on the lower Kenai Peninsula. Incumbent Don Seelinger is challenged by Stephen "Steve" Franklin, Eugene "Jim" Levine, Peter "Pete" Roberts and Doug Stark.

Member registration starts at 4:30 p.m. with the business meeting starting at 6 p.m. Complimentary food and beverages are served starting at 4:30 p.m. Candidate resumes were included in the last Kilowatt Courier, HEA's newsletter and also are online at www.homerelectric.com.
